Households in Liberia face waste management crisis with rudimentary practices.
Household waste management in Cowfield, Liberia was studied to understand how much waste is generated, what it's made of, and how it's handled. Researchers found that on average, each household produces 3 kg of waste per day, with most of it being organic material. The main disposal methods used are burning and open dumping, with limited collection services and segregation. The biggest challenges faced by households are communal disposal areas and waste service providers. Many households are considering waste-to-energy and composting as better waste management options.
