Japanese historical sociology shifts towards social issues and quantitative research.
Historical sociology in Japan focuses more on cultural and social history rather than comparative history. It emphasizes descriptive research and the history of ideas, with a lot of freedom in using sources. Over time, it has evolved into different types of research like discourse-historical and media-historical studies. Recently, there has been a rise in historical research on social issues and quantitative historical sociology. Despite the diverse sub-disciplines, the tradition of freedom in using sources continues to drive historical sociological studies in Japan.
