Revolutionary Rice Farming Method Saves Water and Boosts Yields Dramatically
Adopting a new way of growing rice called System of Rice Intensification (SRI) can help save water and increase rice yields. A study compared SRI to traditional methods and found that SRI used 21-18% less water but produced 23-30% more rice. This means SRI is more efficient in using water and growing rice. The study also showed that SRI reduced deep percolation by 24-29%, leading to a decrease in water footprint by 19-26%. Overall, SRI improved crop water use efficiency by 25-26% and total water productivity by 56-66%. This research suggests that SRI can help farmers grow more rice using less water, benefiting both the environment and rice production.
