New method predicts surface runoff instantly and accurately, revolutionizing flood forecasting.
Researchers developed a new method to predict surface runoff using a combination of dynamic wave modeling and instantaneous unit hydrographs. By combining these two approaches, they were able to accurately simulate the flow of water over time in a watershed. This method requires only one parameter to be calibrated and considers the nonlinearity of the rainfall-runoff process. The results of tests on both ideal and real watersheds showed good agreement between measurements and the model predictions.
