Pest infestation threatens ornamental plant industry in Eastern United States.
The study surveyed ornamental plant nurseries in the Eastern United States to understand the pest status and management practices for Systena frontalis beetles. They found that these beetles are a significant problem, causing damage from April to October on various plant species, with Hydrangea being the most affected. Growers mainly rely on visual inspections and broad-spectrum insecticides to control both adult and larval beetles. On average, growers spend around $1,637 per hectare per year on insecticides and labor to manage S. frontalis.
