Drought-resistant wheat varieties offer hope for food security in dry regions
The researchers evaluated 14 high-yielding wheat varieties to see how well they could handle drought conditions. They grew the plants in pots and studied their characteristics for 2 years. They found that some varieties were more affected by drought than others. One variety, Bahawalpur-97, showed the highest tolerance to drought and had the least reduction in important traits like spike weight and grain yield. This variety could be a good choice for areas with drought problems. The study suggests that certain traits can be used to select wheat varieties that are better at handling drought stress.
