Traditional leaders losing control over land in Zambia due to statutory tenure threats.
The study looked at how laws about land ownership affect traditional land in Zambia. They focused on Chamuka Chiefdom in Chisamba District. The researchers found that these laws can cause problems like traditional leaders losing control of land, disputes over land, and corruption. Some villages are trying to solve these issues by mapping their land and giving out certificates. But these certificates are not accepted by the government. To fix these problems, the government and traditional leaders need to change the laws, teach leaders how to manage land better, and crack down on corruption.
