Struggling to Manage Natural Resources: The Downfall of Adaptive Governance
Collaborative governance and adaptive management have been used in Australia to tackle groundwater, salinity, and runoff issues. A study looked at how well these approaches were working in practice. Interviews with natural resource management bodies in Queensland and New South Wales showed that they struggled to implement adaptive management effectively. The study identified six reasons for this struggle and recommended key design conditions to improve adaptive management outcomes. The findings suggest that more effort is needed to make adaptive management work in real-world situations.
