Land use changes in Ethiopia lead to alarming soil erosion rates.
The study looked at how changes in how land is used in the Tagaw watershed in Ethiopia have affected soil erosion over the past 31 years. By using data on rainfall, soil, satellite images, and topography, the researchers found that the amount of soil erosion in the watershed has increased over time. In 2016, the highest soil erosion was observed, with bare land experiencing the most significant loss. This suggests that changes in land use have a direct impact on soil erosion in the area.
