Women's earnings impacted by skills, not schooling, in middle-income countries.
The study looked at how men and women's skills and education levels affect their earnings in nine countries. Women earn more when they have higher education and cognitive skills, especially in the middle and lower income levels. Both men and women benefit from being open to new experiences and taking risks, but they lose out if they tend to see others as hostile. Women are not paid as much as men for their skills, especially at lower income levels, due to factors like wage differences.
