Granitic gneiss rock type linked to higher bedrock channel occurrence.
Bedrock channels in rivers are mainly found in areas where the rock is strong and resistant. A study in South Korea looked at how different types of rock affect the occurrence of these bedrock channels. They found that areas with granitic gneiss have more bedrock channels compared to areas with granite or limestone. The channels in granitic gneiss areas are steep and narrow, while those in other areas are wider and less steep. This shows that the type of rock influences the shape and location of bedrock channels in rivers.
