Constructed wetlands effectively purify rural wastewater, improving environmental health and water quality.
A field experiment was conducted to test if a constructed wetland system could effectively treat wastewater in rural areas. The system used sand and reed to filter the water. Results showed that the system successfully removed pollutants like BOD, COD, SS, and total phosphorus to meet water quality standards. However, nitrogen removal was low, which could lead to environmental issues. The system worked well in cold temperatures but may need adjustments for stable operation. Overall, the study suggests that constructed wetlands could be a good option for treating wastewater in rural areas.
