New hybrid rice varieties promise higher yields and improved quality traits.
Researchers studied the combining ability of different rice hybrids to improve yield and quality traits. They crossed eight lines with seven testers to create 56 hybrids and analyzed their parents and a check variety. The study showed that non-additive gene action plays a significant role in inheritance, suggesting potential for improvement through heterosis breeding. Certain hybrids, like BPT 5204 x IR 50 and BPT 5204 x CO 50, showed high performance for both yield and quality traits, making them promising candidates for future breeding efforts.
