A study examined the environmental impacts of biofuels throughout their entire life cycle, from start to finish. They made choices about how to do the assessment which greatly influenced the results. There are uncertainties due to data and models used. Biofuels and their production can have varying impacts on the environment. The study looked at emissions affecting climate, use of nonrenewable resources, energy demand, and water use. Through this analysis, they found that some stages and processes of biofuel production are more harmful to the environment than others. By comparing different aspects of biofuel production, they could identify trade-offs and assess the overall environmental impact of these products.
