Alfalfa silage boosts milk yield and efficiency in dairy cows.
The researchers studied how feeding different types of silage to dairy cows affects milk production efficiency. They divided cows into two groups: one fed corn silage with grass silage, and the other with corn silage with alfalfa silage. Both diets had hay and concentrate. The study found that both diets had similar milk production efficiency. However, cows fed corn silage with alfalfa silage produced slightly more milk. As lactation progressed, milk production efficiency decreased in both groups. Overall, supplementing corn silage with alfalfa silage improved milk yield and efficiency.
