Charred briquettes offer cleaner, cheaper cooking fuel alternative for households
Charred briquettes made from sawdust, rice, and coconut husks can be a sustainable cooking fuel alternative. They have a high calorific value of 24.69 MJ/kg and can reduce particulate matter and carbon monoxide emissions. Using a multi-feed gasifier stove, the combustion efficiency of briquettes was found to be 34.7%. To make a profit, 1 kg of briquettes should be sold at Gh¢ 2.48. A user survey showed that 40% of people are willing to use briquettes at this price. Overall, briquettes can be a good replacement for wood and charcoal if used efficiently.
