Trade liberalisation in India has different effects on rich and poor states. Rich and fast-growing states benefit, while poor states see little to negative impact. This can widen the gap between rich and poor regions. The study used a new model to show these results and suggests that trade reforms should be combined with other policies to promote regional equality.
