Trade liberalisation threatens livelihoods of small-scale dairy farmers in India.
India is a big milk producer, but mostly for its own people. The dairy industry is not a big business on its own yet. Farmers rely on it as a backup when crops fail. Even though India makes a lot of milk, it doesn't sell much internationally. The cows in India don't make as much milk as cows in other countries. The government used to protect Indian dairy farmers, but now they have less help. This change could hurt many small farmers. The government needs to step in to help the dairy industry grow.
