Crop raiding by wildlife threatens food security of South African subsistence farmers.
Subsistence farmers near Hluhluwe Game Reserve in South Africa are facing food insecurity due to wildlife crop raiding. Larger households with more people are losing more crops, leading to reduced dietary diversity and income. The damage caused by wildlife results in a potential loss of about USD 180.71 per year, affecting larger households more than smaller ones. This study shows that larger homesteads are at a higher risk of food insecurity in rural farming communities.
