Soybean Lecithin Outperforms Egg Yolk in Preserving Ram Semen, Boosting Livestock Breeding
In this research, scientists compared egg yolk and soybean lecithin extenders for preserving ram sperm. They wanted to see if the soybean lecithin extender could work as well as the traditional egg yolk one. They tested both extenders by freezing and thawing ram semen samples. The results showed that sperm quality was better with the soybean lecithin extender at both stages, before freezing and after thawing. The level of a harmful substance called malondialdehyde was also lower in the soybean lecithin extender compared to the egg yolk one. This suggests that the soybean lecithin extender could be a good alternative for preserving ram sperm.
