The root system of sweet cherry trees grafted on vigorous rootstock in a specific type of soil in Northern Transylvania mainly spreads horizontally, with strong roots providing good anchorage. The roots can reach up to 6.5-8.5 meters outwards and 2.0-2.5 meters deep in older trees, and 3.5 meters outwards and 1.0-1.5 meters deep in younger trees. The majority of roots are found between 18-60 cm deep in both young and old trees.
