Wheat farmers can boost yields by 36% with surface irrigation, saving 59% water
In a wheat study in Khorramabad, different irrigation methods were tested to see their impact on yield and water efficiency. Surface irrigation gave the highest grain yield, followed by sprinkler and strip drip irrigation. The number of spikes, seeds per spike, plant height, weight of 1000 seeds, and grain yield were all influenced by the irrigation method used. Surface irrigation used the most water but had the lowest efficiency, while strip drip irrigation saved water compared to surface irrigation. The study showed that the choice of irrigation method affects how much wheat is grown and how efficiently water is used in agriculture.
