Adding Sandy Particles Boosts Soil Health, Increases Crop Yields
Soil salinity is a big problem for farming in Hetao, China. To help, researchers added sandy particles to the topsoil and found that it made water soak in faster and washed away salt. Adding 30% sand made water soak in 6.6 times faster, and after a week, salt levels dropped by about 50%. This could be a good way to improve soil quality and help crops grow better.
