Immigrants in Belgium Face Employment Struggles, Social Elevator Broken
The study looked at how well immigrants in Belgium are doing in finding jobs compared to native Belgians. They found that first-generation immigrants have a harder time finding work, with up to a 36% lower chance than native Belgians. Even the children of immigrants struggle to find jobs. Immigrant women face even more challenges. The study showed that education is important for the children of immigrants to get jobs, and knowing the language of Belgium helps first-generation immigrants. It takes about ten years for refugees to catch up with other foreign-born workers in finding jobs.
