Long supply chain lead times and mis-aligned incentives increase supply chain vulnerability.
The article explores factors that make supply chains vulnerable to disruptions like natural disasters or pandemics. By reviewing existing research and interviewing experts, 26 key vulnerability factors were identified. The most critical factors include unreliable suppliers, long lead times, and misaligned incentives in the supply chain. The study suggests that not only the length and complexity of a supply chain but also the practices adopted by companies can increase vulnerability. By assessing these factors, professionals can develop strategies to strengthen supply chains and make them more resilient. This research contributes to building a model for identifying and addressing internal vulnerabilities within supply chains.
