Oregon Leads the Way in Protecting Coastal Waters Through State Planning Law.
State of Oregon has a unique system for planning and regulating ocean resources, unlike other states. They have been doing this for almost 50 years. Oregon uses mandatory planning and regulation standards to guide land use actions, including those in coastal waters. The Ocean Resources Goal focuses on planning and regulating coastal waters, not just land. This goal helps regulate energy projects and fisheries in the state. Oregon works closely with the federal government under the Coastal Zone Management Act for these activities. The success of this goal is being evaluated.
