Optimized well patterns increase coalbed methane production by 89%.
The researchers studied how to optimize well patterns in high-dip angle coal seams to improve coalbed methane production in the Baiyanghe block in China. They tested coal properties, modified a desorption model, and analyzed gas-water migration. By optimizing well patterns, they increased gas production by 89% in U-shaped wells, 87.54% in well groups with horizontal wells, and reduced CBM leakage by 67.59%.
