Hoe weeding and poultry manure boost maize yield in Nigeria
The researchers studied how different weed control methods and poultry manure rates affect the growth and development of extra-early maize in Nigeria. They found that using Nicosulfuron herbicide and hoe weeding twice at specific times resulted in bigger and heavier maize cobs. Applying NPK fertilizer at a certain rate also improved grain yield. Poultry manure at 6 tons per hectare performed better than other rates. Overall, hoe weeding twice at specific times and using NPK fertilizer led to effective weed control and higher grain yield in extra-early maize.
