EU asylum policy shifts towards externalization, undermining solidarity and cooperation.
The article examines the EU's Common European Asylum System (CEAS) and how it is being implemented. It looks at the role of solidarity and responsibility sharing, as well as changes in how the system is being put into practice. The study also explores the impact of the 2015-2016 refugee crisis on the CEAS's administrative structure. It concludes that some EU countries are increasingly relying on unilateral actions and transferring responsibilities to third countries instead of working together on asylum issues within the EU.
