Bangladeshi Apparel Firms Boost Exports by Leveraging Managers' Social Skills and Cognition
This research looked at how managers’ abilities to adapt and change impact how well factories in Bangladesh that sell clothes to other countries do. They found that when managers are good at networking and have creative thinking skills, and the company is good at making new things or improving what they already have, the factories tend to do better. However, when managers are good at their job but not particularly innovative, having strong innovation skills in the company doesn't necessarily improve how well the factories perform. So, having innovative skills is key for success in export-manufacturing firms, especially when managers have social connections and creative thinking skills.
