The Irish beef processing industry has significant market power over cattle farmers, allowing them to lower prices below the cost of production. This was found using a method called the New Empirical Industrial Organization approach, which looks at how supply and demand affect market power. Despite being export-oriented and receiving high subsidies, these factors do not have a big impact on the market power of beef processors.
