Intercropping with sorghum boosts pigeonpea yields and farmer profits.
A study was done in Uttar Pradesh, India to see how different nutrient management methods affect pigeonpea crops grown with other plants. They tested three intercropping systems and found that pigeonpea with sorghum gave the best results, with higher grain yield and profits. Among the nutrient management practices tested, using a mix of fertilizers and organic matter led to the highest yields and returns. This shows that combining pigeonpea with sorghum and using the right nutrients can improve crop productivity in rainfed conditions.
