Abnormal Sperm Morphology Linked to Male Infertility Epidemic in Iraq
In a study on semen abnormalities in Iraqi men, researchers aimed to understand how sperm problems like shape, movement, and count affect male infertility. Using international standards, they analyzed semen samples from infertile men. Results showed that the most common issue was abnormally shaped sperm, affecting over 70% of the cases. Many men had only one problem—mostly abnormal sperm shape. Other combinations like poor shape and movement were found in a smaller percentage. The study concludes that sperm shape is a crucial factor in male infertility diagnosis, with abnormal shape (teratozoospermia) being the most prevalent issue in the samples.
