Bhutan's Landfills Could Generate Over 10 Megawatts of Power by 2050
Converting solid waste into energy can help manage waste and reduce environmental impact. A study in Bhutan analyzed waste from two landfills to see how much energy could be generated. They found that the waste contained a lot of carbon and oxygen, with the potential to produce 8.85 Megawatts of power at one landfill and 1.44 Megawatts at the other by 2050. Gasification was identified as the most efficient method to convert waste to energy, reducing waste volume by 80 to 90 percent.
