Revolutionary Soil Leaching Technique Removes Cadmium Contamination from River Sediments
The study looked at ways to clean up river sediments contaminated with cadmium in East China. Three methods were tested: stabilization, soil leaching, and phytoremediation. Stabilization reduced the leaching of cadmium but didn't decrease the total amount in the soil. Leaching with citric acid and oxalic acid removed a lot of cadmium. Phytoremediation was the most efficient and had less pollution, but it took longer. Overall, soil leaching was found to be the best way to quickly clean up cadmium contamination in river sediments.
