Chickpea farmers boost yields by planting on September 14th
The researchers studied how different planting dates and chickpea varieties affect the yield of chickpea plants. They tested four planting dates and four chickpea varieties in Ethiopia. The Dalota variety produced the most pods per plant. The best planting date for high biological yield was September 24th, and the local variety had the highest biological yield. The highest grain yield was from plants planted on September 14th, and the Dalota variety had the highest grain yield. Overall, the Dalota variety and planting on September 14th were the best choices for growing chickpeas in the area.
