Optimizing nitrogen application boosts wheat yield in challenging environments.
The researchers studied the effect of different timings of nitrogen application on wheat yield in a dry environment. They found that applying half of the recommended nitrogen just after the first irrigation and the other half after the second irrigation resulted in the highest grain yield. This approach also led to a high harvest index. However, for maximum biological yield, applying half of the recommended nitrogen after the first irrigation and the remaining half after the second irrigation was more effective.
