Fire Canopy Outperforms Spandrels in Preventing Smoke Spread in High-Rise Buildings.
Super high-rise buildings in China face fire safety challenges due to the poor fire resistance of their curtain walls. A study investigated how changing the position of fire partitions in curtain walls affects fire and smoke spread. The research found that fire prevention canopies are more effective than spandrels in preventing fire smoke spread. Canopies above spandrels can lower flue-gas temperatures, while higher spandrels can reduce glass curtain wall temperatures faster but lead to uneven temperature distributions. This study provides insights for designing fire-safe super high-rise glass curtain walls.
