Mongolia's Desertification Crisis Revealed: Land Degradation Accelerating, Urgent Action Needed!
Desertification in Mongolia from 1990 to 2020 was monitored using Landsat images and Google Earth Engine. Six machine learning methods were used, with the maximum entropy method showing the most accurate results at 96%. Desertified land increased from 1990 to 2005 but decreased afterward. Lightly and moderately desertified lands were most affected by environmental factors. Precipitation was found to be the main driver of desertification in Mongolia. This study provides detailed desertification maps to help prevent and control desertification in the region.
