Wage indexation fuels inflation persistence, impacting global monetary policies.
The study looked at how linking wages to past inflation affects current inflation. They found that when more labor contracts have this link, past inflation becomes more important in explaining current inflation. However, even a small amount of this link doesn't fully explain US inflation patterns. The study also calculated the best way for central banks to set policies and the ideal level of wage indexation. Lastly, they showed that when two countries share a monetary policy, there are losses incurred.
