China Studies in Taiwan have contributed significantly to the international field by offering unique perspectives on Chinese politics and foreign policy. Two major approaches, traditional and scientific, have shaped Taiwan's expertise in understanding China. The traditional approach, rooted in Chinese history and CPC politics, accurately predicted major events. The scientific approach, influenced by Western social sciences, has produced quality research recognized globally. Taiwan's distinct political and cultural status, combined with these approaches, provide valuable insights into the emergence of the Chinese School of IR. Mainstream IR knowledge on China is being challenged by China's evolving position and identity.
