Reeds in Wetlands Proven to Cleanse Water of Harmful Nutrients
The study looked at how nitrogen and phosphorus accumulate in reeds and a constructed wetland. Young plants in the growth stage had the most nitrogen and phosphorus. Reed leaves were best at absorbing nitrogen, while the top 20 cm of the wetland bed had the highest levels of nitrogen and phosphorus. The deeper layers and outflow had lower levels of these compounds.
