Optimal nitrogen ratio boosts blueberry growth, revolutionizing fertilizer management for farmers
Blueberries prefer a mix of ammonium and nitrate nitrogen for optimal growth. Researchers studied how different nitrogen ratios affected blueberry plants. They found that a 2:1 ratio of ammonium to nitrate at pH 5.0 led to the best plant growth. Genes involved in nitrogen absorption were upregulated in the presence of both forms of nitrogen. When these genes were transferred to Arabidopsis plants, they showed improved nitrogen absorption abilities. This study helps us understand how blueberries prefer nitrogen and can guide better fertilizer use to boost blueberry productivity.
