New study reveals need for water treatment before groundwater recharge.
The study looked at whether a new water source needed treatment before being used for artificial groundwater recharge. They tested the water quality through a column test, well sampling, and surveys of 11 recharge plants in Sweden. Results showed that only 30% of natural organic matter was removed during infiltration, indicating the need for pre-treatment. The survey confirmed that the water quality required pre-treatment before use. Well sampling showed a strong link between organic matter in raw and treated water, suggesting the need for treatment before recharge. In conclusion, the new water source is not suitable for direct use in artificial recharge and needs treatment first.
