Rainfall type affects soil erosion on sloping farmland in southern China. Different ridge practices were tested over seven years, showing that ridges reduce runoff and soil loss. Intense and normal rainfall cause most soil and water loss. Long-duration rainfall events are less effective in reducing soil erosion. Choosing the right ridge practice based on rainfall type can help conserve soil and water.
