Researchers studied different varieties of finger millet to understand their genetic variability and correlation with various traits related to yield and thermo tolerance. They found significant differences among the varieties for all traits studied, indicating a wide range of genetic diversity. Traits like fodder yield, grain yield, ear head length, and chlorophyll levels showed high heritability and genetic advance, suggesting they can be easily passed down to future generations. The number of fingers per ear had the largest direct impact on grain yield, followed by productive tillers, fodder yield, plant height, and chlorophyll levels. These findings can help in selecting the best finger millet varieties for improved yield and resilience to heat stress.
