New survey tool reduces bias in transportation behavior studies.
The article introduces a new survey tool called MyTrips that aims to reduce bias in assessing people's preferences for transportation options. This tool uses real-life travel data to create hypothetical scenarios for respondents to consider. Two case studies were conducted using MyTrips: one on extending a subway line in Vienna and another on introducing micro transit vehicles in a rural area. The results showed that people's responses differed between hypothetical and real-life scenarios, indicating less bias in the latter. The studies also found that the availability and accessibility of public transport were key factors influencing people's willingness to use it.
