Monsoon seasons impact air pollution levels in Malaysia, study finds.
Air pollution in Malaysia is measured using the air quality index (API) which includes pollutants like SO2, NO2, CO, O3, and PM10. This study looked at how these pollutants change over time, especially during the monsoon seasons. Data from Kota Bharu, Kelantan showed that air pollutant levels vary based on the monsoon, with higher concentrations during the southwestern monsoon compared to the northeastern monsoon. The study grouped the pollutants into different monthly clusters, mostly reflecting the two main monsoon seasons.
