Growing population pressure driving significant land use changes in Delta State.
The researchers used satellite imagery and GIS techniques to study changes in land use and cover in Aniocha North, Delta State, Nigeria. They found that farmland and savannah were the dominant land cover types in 2002, while forest and farmland were more prevalent in 2014. The main drivers of these changes were population growth, increased demand for land and trees, poor governance, and lack of infrastructure development.
