Stronger, Tougher Aircraft Parts Could Revolutionize Air Travel Safety
The study aimed to understand how adding z-pins to composite materials affects their strength. Different sizes and amounts of z-pins were tested to see how they changed the material's behavior under different types of stress. The tests showed that z-pins can make composites tougher when they break in certain ways. The computer model used in the study accurately predicted how the materials would behave in the tests.
